Selenite Dreams by BUREAU explores the essence of plaster and its transformation within space

Presented at Audemars Piguet in Brassus, Switzerland, Selenite Dreams is an exhibition design by BUREAU (Daniel Zamarbide, Carine Pimenta, Galliane Zamarbide) that explores the very presence and essence of plaster as a material and its transformation within space.  Dylan Perrenoud Upon entering the exhibition, the art pieces of Nina Beier, Latifa Echakhch, Raphael Hefti, Olivier Laric, and Christodoulos Panayiotou (among others) are found in a seemingly undefined white grotto of plaster walls and vaults that bring the visitor into close contact with the art pieces.  Dylan Perrenoud Echoing Dali's delusive art, an exhibition space's usual white cube condition seems to have melted, resulting in unclear edges and a... もっと見る

Atelier ST reinterprets Göttingen’s typical geometries into a modern form for the new Kunsthaus

Atelier ST aimed to embed the new building naturally into its historical setting and yet create a clearly recognizable house of arts. The monolithic facade, with only a few shimmering metallic openings, marks a contemporary venue. © Simone Bossi The architects used an all but forgotten technique - combed modeling plaster. The facade was carefully combed on each level to create irregular grooves in the soft mineral plaster. Each level has a slight cantilever to maximize floor space and resonate with the adjoining historical buildings. © Simone Bossi In spite of the cramped site, a column-free reinforced concrete structure resulted in a surprisingly spacious interior. Only a few windows offer views of the surroundings. R... もっと見る

Kéré Architecture completes Kenyan startup campus fitted with ventilation chimneys

Inspired by termite mounds in the region, Kéré Architecture fitted the Startup Lions Campus with striking cooling chimneys. The ventilation towers create a stack effect to naturally cool the building by extracting wam air upwards. Fresh air is introduced through specially designed low openings. This low-tech system deals cleverly with the hot Kenyan climate and prevents dust from damaging the computers. The natural ventilation system -  © Kere Architecture The campus, located on the banks of Lake Turkana, is a response to the severe youth unemployment in the region. By offering high-level training and access to job opportunities, the startup campus offers young entrepreneurs a place to thrive without having to... もっと見る

House van der Merwe Coetzee

This project was completed under Meyer & Associates' previous iteration - MEYER+VORSTER.   The architects were briefed three years ago by a professional couple to design a small, low maintenance city residence in De Waterkant, which could be used during the week while they were involved with their medical practices. Their life would be shared between this house and a large weekend house at Aurora, a few hours from Cape Town. The clients emphasised that the design of the house had to be bespoke, with every aspect of it, purpose made and purpose designed around their specific needs, requirements and busy lifestyle. This instruction gave rise to a somewhat unorthodox spatial configuration and programme, developed in close consultati... もっと見る

Archisbang transforms mundane 60s structure into impressive monolith

For environmental reasons Archisbang opted not to tear down the mundane 60s apartment building, but strip it all the way to its skeleton and reshape it as a modern monolith placed on an Italian hillside.  Aldo Amoretti The building skin is upgraded with an external insulation system covered by lightweight cement boards roughly plastered with natural lime mortar. The architects accentuated the openings in a play of voids that puncture the monolithic volume. Aldo Amoretti The building houses three independently accessible apartments. Circulation is done by elevator and interior stairwell. An external metal staircase makes the apartments and rooftop independently accessible. Aldo Amoretti The ground floor includes a gara... もっと見る

Bold and colourful elementary school additions are playfully incremental

Since 2013, a former Baroque rectory has been home to a primary school and daycare centre. Public Atelier and FUUZE architects have most recently contributed to the project, adding several bright and bold classrooms in the summer of 2019. Adding much-needed space to meet growing school capacity demand while also preserving the decaying roof trusses of the Baroque complex, the project is an example of incremental development. Credit: BoysPlayNice The project emphasizes the interconnection of individual parts so that their historical value is preserved and the users of the school and daycare feel comfortable and free to use all parts. Though intertwined, the newly implemented and original historical elements are clearly distinguishable... もっと見る

VENICE BIENNALE 2012 - PART

Venice, Italyexhibition at FÄRGFABRIKEN KONSTHALL, Stockholm 2013Part is a work by architect Petra Gipp and composer Kim Hedås. The work constitutes part of an artistic investigation that intends to explore how dimensions of architecture/art and music/sound may be widened as more layers are added to the totality. In Part, sound and structure interact to create new sequences that together build a polyphonically shifting play. The sound is integrated with the cast – concrete, wax and bronze – and is filtered through the parchment membrane. The architecture is defined through the matter and its relationship to the music, which in turn is reinforced by the space. Part inquires whether these layers can enhance the understandi... もっと見る
