House under the shadow of a Tree

Mario Herrera Holgado 建築家 として

Chuy and Cesar decided to recover a 90 m2 space on the outskirts of the city, taking the optimization of resources to the limit, an important challenge that led us to carry out concrete actions to quickly give the building a new perception, in addition to diversifying its use, having as an immediate priority its operation as a house and seeking that the impact on the land would be null.

The actions were several and we carried them out very carefully, for example, the reuse of materials that we found in the building such as glass, doors and gates.

A tree that previously could not be seen from inside the building was an important reason for the removal of a couple of slabs in poor condition, in addition to the fact that the space, due to its orientation, did not have the best thermal and lighting conditions, making it dark and cold. When removing the first slab, we proposed a greenhouse-like roof to take advantage of the orientation, resulting in good ventilation and natural light. By means of this cover we were able to recover rainwater through a very simple water catchment system which will help us to reuse it.

The reason for the removal of the second slab was to generate a garden in the front of the house and considerably improve ventilation in the interior spaces, here we also removed the floor so that the ground could absorb rainwater and generate a space for living and recreation.

We also proposed to remove two walls and open holes in the rear facade to optimize the living space and bathroom, always thinking of having a pleasant ventilation and natural lighting.

House under the shade of a tree, was a project that sought to integrate clients to the construction of their own space, to bring our suppliers closer in a more integral way and to ask ourselves how we can generate more inclusive architecture in the peripheries of our cities.
